Though we very much wish it was the more simple, normal, non-aggressive cyst, I am extremely happy to have a confirmed BENIGN diagnosis. Pathology confirmed that it is an aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC).
Right now, we are not completely sure of the future but we know a few things. We are looking at 6-8 weeks in this spica cast. After that, it will depend on the future MRI's, tests and how much bone grows in and around the graft. We know there is some damage to the blood supply which is extremely scary but we won't know the full extent of that for 6-12 months. He said in 6-12 months, we will either be celebrating or be in for some more serious scary surgeries when it comes to the avascular necrosis. We also know that she unfortunately will most likely have to go through all of this again (over 80% change of the cyst returning). I don't know when the bone will be strong enough to be walking again.
