While at the zoo, MawMaw was playing with Allie and said "boo" while grabbing at her belly. That simple, that innocent, just a fun game! Well Allie jerked her hips back, like anyone would but instead of a laugh, she screamed and fell to her butt. She started to cry. We kind of laughed it off, as a dramatic, needing a nap toddler! I mean after all, MawMaw didn't scare her that bad! I mean, come on! She just fell onto her butt! Well we kept walking while I carried her, as she cried and cried...until we realized something was really wrong! She started to pass out in my arms. She finally got words out and she begged us not to move her. She was holding her knee.
We, and the zoo medics, thought maybe she hurt her knee, maybe tore something. They suggested an ambulance but the ambulance would be a long time due to it not being emergent and would not take us to Kosairs. So the Zoo took us on their gator to our car and off to Kosair we went...with Allie in my lap...not moving her leg as much as possible...unseat belted. MawMaw dropped me and Allie off at the ER and then she took Noah and Laynie home. Laynie needed to nurse so she went home for a bottle. Terry met us at Kosair.
After x-rays, they came in and told us that she broke her femur, just below the hip. They said there was a very large mass that needed biopsied, which caused the biggest, strongest bone in the human body to break so easily. Not at all what we were expecting! They told us we would speak to the orthopedic surgeon the next morning.
We were admitted and she was put in traction for the night. She was put to sleep the next day and put in a spica cast, which we were told would be for 6 weeks. Our night there was pretty miserable to say the least, even though Allie was pretty amazing considering it all. She was in tremendous pain and refused to pee in a diaper, pee the bed or a bed pan. She told me that she would just pee on the potty when we got home. Unfortunately, we weren't going home. Finally after nearly 24 hours, we convinced her to pee so that they wouldn't put in a catheter and off to the OR she went. Longest time of my life...
She came out and came to. She was pretty groggy but asked to see the cast and said "OH it's sooooo pretty!" which is sooooo my Allie girl!
